How to Survive An Invasion At Your Home

Home invasion is scary, especially for children. When we began our home security system installation journey, we didn't realize we'd live through it ourselves. Here are the lessons we have learned thus far.

  1. Do not let your children see the attackers. Two men broke into the house while our children were sleeping upstairs. They were taken downstairs by us until police arrived. Our children were not hurt but the experience was enough for them to be traumatized.
  2. Lock all valuables. Our bedroom has a safe that holds valuables. Even if someone broke into the house, they won’t have access to it.
  3. Keep An Eye Out For Burglars. Our neighborhood has many burglaries. We watch out for suspicious cars and people.
  4. Make sure you have a backup plan. We will provide financial support for our family in the event of an emergency. If necessary, we have a plan for leaving the country.
  5. Be prepared. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you must defend your life, you must be prepared. Always have food, water, or other supplies on hand.
  6. Get help immediately by calling 911. Call 911 immediately after finding out someone is breaking into your house. It is better to call 911 immediately than wait for the authorities to come to your house.
  7. Use Common Sense. Never allow anyone into your home who doesn't belong. Invite strangers only to visit.
  8. Get Help From Neighbors Or Other People In The Area. Call neighbors or friends if you feel unsafe. You can have them watch your back while calling the police.
  9. Keep your cool and do as instructed by officers. Be calm and do what officers tell you to. Do not run or resist arrest.
  10. Photograph Any Evidence. Take pictures of any evidence found during the investigation. This includes fingerprints, blood samples, and other items.
